It was an eventful day on the Indoor Football League transaction chart – maybe the most eventful since prior to the start of the season.
The Arizona Rattlers lost three of their standout players in wide receivers Dezmon Epps and Anthony Amos as well as defensive lineman Joshua Gordon.
IFL: Arizona Rattlers lose star trio
Epps has been assigned to play for the defending champion Washington Valor of the Arena Football League, while Amos signed with Arizona’s AAF squad.
Gordon, on the other hand, was put on the season-ending injured reserve list with an undisclosed injury.
That’s a big loss for a team that looked prime and ready, at least early on, to compete for the 2019 United Bowl title.
Amos and Epps combined for more than half of the Rattlers’ receiving touchdowns last season and had already combined for three this year.
On top of it, Gordon leads the IFL with five sacks after two games, putting an end to an historic start to the season.
In a corresponding move, the team added wideouts Johnny Jackson IV and Donta Armstrong, along with offensive lineman Dominique Harris.
The coming weeks will decide how much it effects Arizona, a team known for making adjustments quickly under the leadership of coach Kevin Guy.
It will be important for the team to make those adjustments quick, though. The Rattlers face off with new in-state rival Tucson in a battle of undefeated’s on Saturday night.
Other Transaction Notes: Stytz added to shot-term IR
The injury bug seems to be making its way around the league, as Quad City was hit with some unfortunate news, too.
Steamwheelers Kicker Jacob Stytz will be out for at least four weeks as he was put on the short-term injured reserve list.
Stytz was 12-14 on extra points this year for Quad City as well as 1-3 on field goals.
The Steamwheelers added St. Ambrose University’s Kenneth Rowe to the roster as a replacement.
