Start ‘Em
Trevor Harris, Ottawa – $8624
A poor showing against Calgary should not dissuade you from putting an affordable Harris in your lineup against a weak Alouettes defence. His price allows you to load up on studs at other positions, and Harris’ high number of pass attempts guarantees a safe floor this week. Furthermore, Ottawa has attempted two-point converts on three of their five touchdowns this season, offering the potential of bonus points for Harris.
SJ Green, Toronto – $5828
Green has averaged the second most targets per game in 2018 but converted only seven of those into receptions. With James Franklin taking over under centre, and in a favorable matchup with the Eskimos porous pass defense, that trend could change in a hurry.
First, Franklin targeted Green more than anyone when he took over for the injured Ricky Ray, and his second most targeted receiver Bryan Tyms was released this week. In addition, Franklin is currently averaging 4.8 yards per passing attempt, well below both his career average of 8.0 and below the league average. Franklin’s average depth of target will surely go up in what is expected to be high-scoring game. While not a burner, Green is a great route runner and can beat defensive backs to the ball. Look for the first big game of the year from the Argos’ star receiver.
Eskimos Receivers, Edmonton
Derel Walker, D’haquille Williams, Kenny Stafford, and now with Bryant Mitchell likely returning to the lineup gives Mike Reilly a group of excellent receivers to throw to. As mentioned, this game should be high-scoring, and there is room for several receivers to produce excellent weeks. CFL.ca fantasy writer Ben Kramer projects a big passing week from Mike Reilly, and that means a big week for his pass catchers. Don’t be scared to start two Eskimos receivers.
William Powell, Ottawa – $8289
It’s not exciting to go chalk, but Powell is the most expensive running back of the week for good reason. Talent and opportunity are a winning combination for fantasy, and Powell has heaps of both. Powell leads the CFL in both carries and yards per game, and that’s not changing this week. In what will surely be a favorable game script, Powell could get 20+ touches, a surefire recipe for fantasy success

Mercer Timmis, Hamilton – $3000
It is difficult to advise against Timmis at his value. At only $3000, he is low risk, but with Whitlock and Thomas-Erlington already involved, and John White getting more involved in practice, Timmis is clearly a member of an RBBC (running back by committee). That is deeply hazardous to fantasy consistency. In addition, over the last four seasons, the top running back has averaged 9.5 touchdowns on the season. Timmis already leads the league with four. While certainly talented, history suggests Timmis cannot possibly maintain this scoring pace. Although he has a positive matchup, a crowded Hamilton backfield makes Timmis a volatile player going forward.
Saskatchewan Roughriders – Everybody
The Riders helped the Alouettes snap a 13-game losing streak, ostensibly gifting a win to a team that some predicted would go winless in 2018. The Duron Carter experiment at cornerback was an unmitigated disaster, and the gaping hole he leaves on offence hurts his fellow receivers, quarterback, and the run game. Naaman Roosevelt’s poor week was only saved by a late touchdown. Start a Roughrider at your own risk.
