The Nebraska Danger announced on Sunday afternoon that they would be parting ways with head coach Mark Stoute, following a 31-20 loss to the Green Bay Blizzard.
The Danger started the season off with three straight wins and even went 4-1 in their first five games. However, since beating Iowa on March 30, the Danger have lost six straight games, resulting in Stoute being dismissed.
The Danger released this statement on Sunday.
“We thank Coach Stoute for his commitment to our program and wish him the absolute best,” Nebraska Danger Owner Charlie Bosselman states. “Moving forward, we have tremendous expectations for our football program and a steadfast commitment to winning. I believe we can achieve great things within the Indoor Football League, and it is our priority to present a high-level product for our fans and our community.”
This is the second time in two season’s that Stoute had been fired mid-season.
Last year, after leading the Jacksonville Sharks to an 8-0 start, Stoute was canned because he wasn’t considered, “The wrong coach for the Sharks future.”
Assistant coaches Pig Brown and Adam Shackleford will take over the reigns as co-head coaches.
Brown was inducted into the Indoor Football League (IFL) Hall of Fame this year and has been involved with the league since 2009.
Brown spent time with the River City Rage and Nebraska Danger, and sits second in IFL history with 540 tackles.
Brown helped the Danger to three straight Intense conference championships from 2013-2015 and was voted into the Danger Hall of Fame in 2016.
Shackleford has been coaching indoor football since 2007. Leading the likes of the Spokane Shock, Tri-Cities Fevor, and Spokane Empire, Shackleford brings explosiveness on offense and a whole lot of experience.
Shackleford lead his teams to five league championships and won the 2009 Arena Football 2 (AF2) championship with the Shock. He also coached the Empire before the team went defunct following the 2017 season.
Nebraska’s next game will come against the Arizona Rattlers (9-2) as the team travels to Talking Stick Arena on Sunday May 27.
Nebraska has three regular season games remaining and only needs one win to qualify for the playoffs.
