Walter Thurmond Retires
Walter Thurmond played in 16 games in 2015, racking up 71 combined tackles, 2 sacks, a safety, and 3 interceptions. It was his best year as a pro and at just 28 years old this news is surprising as his best years could still be ahead of him. Lining up at strong safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, his talent on the field was without question. He is seen on film constantly tracking the opposing quarterback’s vision and he rarely misplays a ball thrown down the middle of the field. His quick break on the ball makes it easier for him to be in position to make a play.
Thurmond, who played high school football for West Covina High School in Los Angeles, California, excelled early and often at the University of Oregon. In 2010 he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Playing time was hard to come by as he didn’t play a whole lot during his first few years. Slowly, he began to make a name for himself during parts of the 2013 season, notably, with a 29-yard “pick 6” against the Minnesota Vikings in November. However, his biggest moment came in February of 2014, when Thurmond started Super Bowl 48 for the Seahawks as they crushed the Denver Broncos 43-8.
Walter Thurmond has had a few stops in his six-year NFL career, and should be proud of what he accomplished in the National Football League.
