Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has decided to stay in New York after signing a one-year deal worth up to $10.5 million. Pierre-Paul has spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Giants.

Jason Pierre-Paul Re-Signs With Giants
Jason Pierre-Paul played in only eight games in 2015 after a fireworks incident severely mangled his right hand. Wrapping up ball carriers and finishing tackles was a bit problematic for him in 2015, as the deformed hand gave him a tough time. This signing is exactly what the Giants wanted, as the team needs pass rush help but did not want to take a risk on a long-term deal with Pierre-Paul.
At the time of the incident, Pierre-Paul had not signed his franchise tender, but the Giants decided not to revoke the tender. However, the team withdrew the $60 million long-term deal that they had previously offered and allowed Pierre-Paul to finish the one-year deal.
While Pierre-Paul only recorded one sack in 2015, he batted down six passes and pressured the quarterback effectively. He certainly did not look like the player he used to be, but he was definitely an above average pass rusher. He is still only 27 years old, so he has time to learn how to play effectively with his mangled hand.
The two-time Pro Bowler recorded 42 sacks and 205 tackles during the five seasons before his injury. He was a dominant force on the Giants 2011 Super Bowl team and he made the first-team All-Pro that season.
The Deerfield Beach, Florida native was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft after playing college football for the University of South Florida. The Giants selected a raw pass rusher in 2010 who had played one season at USF with only 6.5 sacks. Pierre-Paul developed into one of the best pass rushers in the league, but after a series of injuries, it will be interesting to see if he can become elite again.
