Report: Richie Incognito To Sign 3-Year Deal with Buffalo Bills

After a stellar season with the Bills, right guard Richie Incognito has signed an extension to keep him in Western Buffalo for the next three years.

One of the Buffalo Bills top priorities in free agency this off-season will remain in Western New York.

Offensive guard Richie Incognito has re-signed with the Bills, according to Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News. The new deal is for three years as had been rumored before the news was made official. It’s also worth in the vicinity of $5 million per year over the life of the deal according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Incognito had a career revival of sorts after signing a one-year, $1.45 million contract with the Bills in 2015. It was his second stint in Buffalo, having also played there during the 2009 season. He would start all 16 games at left guard and was among the league’s top offensive linemen in terms of limiting quarterback pressure. He allowed just 12 quarterback hurries which was third-best in the NFL among guards who had played in at least 1,000 snaps.

For his efforts, the 32-year-old would be named a Pro Bowl alternate. As a result of Mike Iupati of the Cardinals deciding to pull out of the event, Incognito would end up making the trip to Hawai’i. It was the second Pro Bowl appearance of his career, having also played in 2012.

He is perhaps infamously known for his role in a bullying scandal that came to light in November of 2013. During that season, his third with the Miami Dolphins, he was reportedly involved in repeated harassment of teammate Jonathan Martin. The Dolphins would eventually suspend Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team as a result. He would not be re-signed after his contract expired and he would spend the entire 2014 season out of football before signing with the Bills.

Incognito will be entering his 12th NFL season in 2016. He was originally picked by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Nebraska.
