Johnny Manziel Might Start in Week 2

Johnny Manziel might start in Week 2. Manziel, the Cleveland Browns backup quarterback, was forced into action against the New York Jets, after starter Josh McCown, left the game with a concussion. Head coach Mike Pettine, said the team will prepare for next weeks game against the Tennesse Titans with Johnny Manziel as the starter.

That doesn’t guarantee that Johnny Manziel will get the start however, because McCown might still get to play if he clears the concussion protocol and can practice Thursday and Friday. Mike Pettine said he would make that decision later in the week.

Johnny Manziel, 22, struggled at times against the New York Jets, finishing 13 of 24 for 182 yards with a TD and three turnovers (all in the second half). He was also sacked three times and seemed a bit flustered by the Jets pressure, frequently fleeing the pocket while looking to make plays with his legs rather than finding a receiver down the field.

Manziel especially struggled on his shorter throws, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. The second half was rough for Johnny Manziel.

“Obviously I’m a little bit disappointed in the second half but there were still some good things despite the turnovers,” Manziel said of his performance per Mary Kay Cabot of the Northeast Media Group.

Week 2 will have to have even more good things for Johnny Manziel if he gets the start. The matchup against the Tennesse Titans, and Marcus Mariota, who shined in his debut will be an intriguing one.  The Titans won’t be a pushover. Manziel will need to play far better if he wants to beat fellow Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota as Cleveland hopes not to start off 0-2 this year.
