The Monterrey Steel have signed former Jacksonville Sharks DB Greg Reid after he was released from the Tampa Bay Storm.
Monterrey Steel Add Former Jacksonville Sharks DB
On June 15, the Steel continue to add important players to their roster, this time being a young and talented defensive back.
Early Years
Reid went to Florida State University from 2009-2012 before violating team rules and transferring to Valdosta State. In his time with Florida State, he played all 13 games, intercepted two passes, and also lead NCAA Football in average punt return yards.
In 2010, Reid was the Chick-fil-A Defensive MVP and the leader of the NCAA Average Punt Return Yardage in 2009.
Pro/Arena Days
In 2013, Reid was undrafted but then the St. Louis Rams signed him, but dropped him after the final roster was announced.
This didn’t stop Reid, however, signing with the New Orleans VooDoo on December 23, 2014. Reid never got to play in New Orleans, but later on, 2015 came and he found a new home with the Jacksonville Sharks.
In April of 2015, the Jacksonville Sharks snagged the rookie DB. Reid recorded a total of 70.5 tackles, nine interceptions for 150 yards, and 17 Kick Return yards for 288 yards and a touchdown, allowing him to get the Arena Football League (AFL) Rookie Player of the Year Award.
In 2016, Reid took off again with the Jacksonville Sharks. He recorded way more tackles, having 101.5 tackles. He had seven interceptions for 119 yards, and two kick returns for 35 yards.
As the Sharks moved to the National Arena League (NAL), Reid decided to stay a free agent in the AFL.
He eventually got signed by the Tampa Bay Storm, recording only six tackles before going on the League Suspension list and then leaving the Storm and the AFL.
Monterrey Steel Playoff Preview
The Monterrey Steel hope to beat Jacksonville both on June 17 and on June 24 with the addition of Reid. With him joining the squad, this very well could be the team to beat coming into the post-season.
Based on how they play against Jacksonville on the 17th, we will get a better look at what they can do against Jacksonville, both offensively and defensively.
