Monterrey Steel Add Talented Defensive Lineman

Monterrey Steel added talented defensive lineman Jerry Turner to its roster this week. During the middle of the NAL season, Turner agrees to head over to Monterrey, Mexico to play for the Steel.

The location may be new, but there will be several familiar faces. He will be reunited with former Jacksonville Sharks teammates London Crawford and Joe Sykes.

Turner and Crawford played together in Jacksonville from 2013-2016. Turner, Crawford, and Sykes played together in 2015 when the Sharks went to the Arena Bowl and lost to the San Jose Sabercats. Turner and Sykes are both on the defensive line, and together should terrorize offensive linemen.

Monterrey has skill and talent with former New York Giants Kicker Brandon Rutherford, former Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Jacoby Jones, and Sharks top-receiver, Crawford. With these two, Monterrey could dominate in the points category.

On defense, they have Jabari Fletcher and Sykes—these names alone should be enough to dominate, but they aren’t. They should be able to rally together as a unit, but that still eludes them.

But for all their skill, there are some potential issues with this addition that still haven’t been addressed. When losing, the team tends to lose focus and discipline. They have been known to say things, start fights, play dirty, and throw things—and none of that is good for team unity.

Rest of the Season Schedule

Week 9: @ Corpus Christi Rage

Week 10: @ Jacksonville Sharks

Week 11: @Georgia Firebirds

Week 12: vs. Georgia Firebirds

Week 13: vs. Columbus Lions

Week 14: @ Jacksonville Sharks

With the addition of Turner, the Steel might get one or two more wins than they would without him, but they need to work on the chemistry before it’s too late.
