Week 8 has come and gone just like that. Here are our National Arena League Week 8 Takeaways.
National Arena League Week 8 Takeaways
Dayton’s struggles are still lingering while Lehigh Valley continues to strike down on prey
After the 68-6 victory for Lehigh Valley, Dayton now falls to 0-5 and Lehigh Valley goes to 6-1.
Dayton’s run game this week was embarrassing to watch. Rocky Carlisle for Dayton rushed for -1 yards. Their passing failed to reach 100-yards this week. Quarterback Chris Brumfield threw for 81-yards and twobinterceptions before being benched.
Lehigh Valley, on the other hand, got 200 passing yards from Warren Smith Jr. and 44 rushing yards from Wyreaz Bradley.
Dayton continues to show us a lack of effort this season.
Jacksonville Stays Strong With Backup Quarterback
This game was looking to be interesting, with the score being 7-6 with Jacksonville on top after each team’s first possession. With Tommy Grady being out for the second straight game and the remainder of the season, the Sharks have to go with Damien Fleming.
Fleming continued to show that he can be the real-deal in Jacksonville, throwing for 117-yards before handing it over to 3rd-string, Daniel Farley in the fourth quarter. Derrick Ross mowed over the Rage defense all night. The Jacksonville defense held Thomas Earnest to only 7 rushing yards on the night.
Jake Jablonski had a decent night, throwing for a solid 130-yards and 1-touchdown for Corpus Christi.
Jacksonville continued to 7-0 for the first time in franchise history after winning 71-6.
Lions, Steel Square Off
Things got out of control in this game, from small fights, to players being ejected, to even a kicker chucking a kicking tee into the stands hitting people.
Steel Kicker Brandon Rutherford got frustrated and threw a kicking tee into the crowd, causing him to nearly hit a woman with a baby, some fans say. Rutherford was only 1-for-3 on the night, having a blocked field-goal.
Darwin Pittman, for Monterrey, rushed for 23-yards. Pittman passed for 49-yards. London Crawford also passed for 49-yards and a touchdown. Strange coming from a wide receiver.
Columbus proved that they are one of the most dangerous teams in the National Arena League after this 48-18 victory.
The Lions offense were really slow with rushing. Tristan Purifoy rushed for only 2-yards. Darren Daniel had a great game, passing for 123-yards and 4-touchdowns!
A lot of people were watching to see if Monterrey was still that great team they were at the beginning of the season. As of right now, it doesn’t look like Monterrey is that high-powered team. This loss could possibly hurt their power ranking and possibly their playoff chances. Only time will tell if they can improve or not.
Columbus advanced to 4-3 while Monterrey go down to 3-2.
Things get close, but slips away for Georgia
In Sunday’s matchup between the High Country Grizzlies and the Georgia Firebirds, things were tight in the first half. The score was 20-17 with High Country on top.
As the third quarter started, the game started to get away from Georgia, scoring 0-points in the third quarter compared to High Country’s 7. Georgia finally got something going again, scoring 14-points in the fourth quarter. However, their defense looked sloppy, allowing 20-points for the Grizzlies.
The passing for both teams were pretty close. Firebirds Quarterback Craig Belton threw for 109-yards and 3-touchdowns. Grizzlies Quarterback Stephen Panasuk passed for 122-yards and 2-touchdowns.
The rushing, however, was a different story. Zack Brown for Georgia rushed for only 15-yards and one touchdown compared to Undra Hendrix for High Country, rushing for 80-yards and three touchdowns!
Georgia tried to show that they’re better than their 2-5 record, but fail to prove that they can pull out a win. High Country breaks their two game losing streak, moving up to 3-3 on the season. Perhaps they can start a win streak? We will find out after this upcoming bye week when they face the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks in Week 10.
