Mason Mitchell returns to Iowa

While the ARCA Series returns to action after a two week hiatus, Owner and Driver Mason Mitchell will be returning for his first race behind the wheel in over seven months.

Mitchell drove in six ARCA events last season, five for his own team – Mason Mitchell Motorsports, and the other for Venturini Motorsports. Over his last four races his worst finish is 3rd, including two wins.

Not to mention, Mitchell won at Iowa Speedway – his home track – last season, and he calls it, “The greatest accomplishment of my whole career.”

As a kid, Mitchell went to West Des Moines Valley High School, just an hour away from the Speedway. It did not open until he was 12, but he’s obviously had enough time to get aquatinted.

“[The best thing about Iowa is] the people and the community,” Mitchell said. “The track provides great racing and maneuverability.”

Mitchell will drive his own #78 car this Saturday and will have a teammate in the #98 of Brady Boswell. Boswell, a Watkinsville, Georgia native, has driven for Mitchell four times during the 2016 season with each of the last two finishes being top 10’s.

“[Iowa] is something to look forward to, it always has a special place [with me],” Mitchell said. “[The fans are] over-whelming. I always love having their support.

The ARCA Series will run a practice session and a qualifying session leading up to the ABC Supply 150’s 8:18pm CT start time. The race will be televised by Fox Sports 2.

LWOS’ Motorsports Writer Connor Ferguson will be at Iowa Speedway throughout the weekend, covering both of the ARCA and IndyCar Series Races at Iowa. He can be followed on twitter @cfchangs9.

Just like anyone in his position, Mitchell is hoping for a 1-2 finish at Iowa.

“That would make my year,” Mitchell said.
