5 Superstars Who Should Return for the Brand Split

WWE announced back in May that the brand split shall return this year. Thus both Raw and Smackdown shall once again be christened with their own unique brand and roster of talent. The brand split enables both Raw and Smackdown to acquire their own Roster and General manager. Along with the added potential of unique championships. Since the announcement, former WWE stars have reportedly been in contact with the company, as WWE are keen to have familiar veterans back on WWE TV to join the brand split. Here are 5 superstars who should come back for the brand split.

Kurt Angle

It has been no secret that Kurt Angle has been keen to return, as he previously stated he would be open for a return to the company. Recent reports have surfaced claiming that he has spoken to Triple H on possibly making a comeback. Since departing the WWE a decade ago, Angle found great success in TNA for 10 years, winning six World titles (to add to the six he won in WWE). After leaving the company earlier this year, many fans began to ponder a WWE return for the Olympic hero. Angle himself has also stated that his desire is to work with NXT tag team American Alpha. The only negative for us fans would be if Angle would work as a part-timer. Even so, WWE can use an Olympic gold medalist right now. Oh it’s true, it’s damn true.

Rey Mysterio

One of the best high flyers to ever grace wrestling and the WWE, Mysterio departed the company in early 2015, but left on good terms. This is good news because a return for the master of the 619 looks more likely. Mysterio is currently contracted to Lucha Underground, so an instant return is on hold momentarily. But once his deal at Lucha Underground expires, no one would put it past WWE to bring him back. If Mysterio is to make a comeback, then a return to Smackdown would be favourable, as it was the show he played a major role in for six years. The WWE universe could well be dialing up 619 sooner than we think.

Carlito

Carlito is considered to be one of the best mid-carders of his time in WWE. He captured the US Title, Intercontinental and Tag team champions. He was also one half of the first team to unify the tag team championship in 2009. He also possessed a unique gimmick (even if he was spitting apples at people). After leaving the WWE in 2010 due to substance abuse, he has spent time on the Indies. So with a strong resume from his previous run in the company, Carlito would be ideal for a return. We want it because it would be cool…

Shelton Benjamin

One of the best pure athletes to step inside a WWE ring, Shelton Benjamin is arguably one of the most underrated wrestlers to grace the WWE. Benjamin had runs with the US title, Intercontinental title and Tag team titles in his previous WWE run. As previously elaborated, Kurt Angle stated his desire to work with American Alpha. So with that in mind could be see Benjamin reunite with Angle or American Alpha in NXT? Benjamin left the WWE in 2010 on good terms and found success in ROH and NJPW. Surely the gold standard would fit in the roster and brand split.

John Morrison

In 2011, John Morrison suddenly left WWE. He cited a neck injury as one of the reasons why he left the company. Since departing, Morrison wrestled for a few indies in the States, but has not made a national comeback until recently. He has made a huge impact at Lucha Underground out of Los Angeles and has essentially become one of the company’s biggest stars. He has also starred in several films during his hiatus from wrestling, among them Hercules Reborn.
