Teddy Purcell Signs With Kings

Teddy Purcell spent the majority of the 2015-16 season with the Edmonton Oilers accumulating 11 goals and 21 assists in 61 games before heading south to join the Florida Panthers at the NHL Trade Deadline. The 30-year-old was acquired to help with their post-season push and was a healthy contributor, tallying three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 15 games. He also netted a pair of goals in the Panther’s six game post-season loss to the New York Islanders.

Purcell entered the league as an undrafted free-agent, but spent most of his career with the Tampa Bay Lighting. In his NHL career he has accumulated 305 points in 559 games, and is known as a positive possession driver, posting positive relative corsi and relative fenwick numbers in each of the last five seasons – even during his time in Edmonton. The Oilers acquired Purcell in a three way move that saw Sam Gagner end up with the Arizona Coyotes, and the Lightning cleared cap space, and picked up a 6th round draft pick.

Purcell is coming off a three-year, $13.5 million contract, but had just 32 points playing the majority of his time with the Oilers alongside Leon Draisaitl and Taylor Hall.
