Marcus Rashford Breaking Records

It’s only been a short time since the young Manchester-born forward has burst onto the scene at Old Trafford, but his name will not soon be forgotten. The Manchester Derby saw Marcus Rashford enter the record books once again, and continue to put his mark on historic debuts.

The young forward, as surely anyone who is following the Premier League knows, burst onto the scene with two goals in his European debut for Manchester United against Midtjylland. Some were saying that it was a great game, but nothing to read into in the long run, and those people are surely being made to look naive with the way the young man is currently playing. Just a few days after that match, he broke a record for being the youngest United player to score a brace in a Premier League match, in a massive match for the club against Arsenal in which he was also the fourth youngest player to ever start for Manchester United in the Premier League.

Four goals and an assist in his first two matches for the senior squad is something you would expect to see in a video game, or more likely in your dreams. This is what the young man is living and is continuing to improve on by becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in the historic Manchester Derby at 18 years and 141 days old, or should I say young? When you watch the forward glide effortlessly along the pitch, ball at his feet, you can hardly tell that he is just 18 years old and seem to forget that he’s not a seasoned veteran of the top flights. When you take the time to sit and think that at 18 years old he’s scored the game-winning goal in one of the sports most historic derbies, it boggles the mind that it’s only his eight match for the club at the senior level.

One thing is for sure when you watch Rashford on the pitch and it’s the fact that he is indeed the real deal, and not a flash in the pan like past Manchester United debutants. One can only wonder how long he can keep this amazing run up for, or if it will ever end. It would be far less than surprising to see Rashford continue to play this way for the rest of the campaign and effectively lead United into a top four position, guaranteeing them Champions League football come next season. This thought brings many questions to the forefront for the club and many of them revolve around the current manager, Louis van Gaal, and whether or not he will at least see out his current contract to the end of next campaign.

Regardless if Manchester United finish in the top four, or if van Gaal remains in his managerial position come next season, it’s a safe bet to say that Marcus Rashford will not be a name that will be gone come next September. With phenomenal foot skills, a down to earth personality, a great work ethic, and loads of talent to go along with it, the sky is the limit for Marcus Rashford. As for the hopes and dreams of European football for next year at Manchester united, only time will tell if the young man becomes the savior of the once depressing and disappointing season.
