Mark Hunt is one of the all-time best knockout artists MMA has ever seen, and Frank Mir has evolved to become a knockout artist himself.
We’re rapidly approaching battle in the land down under and both heavyweight fighters are prepared for war. Frank Mir, who’s fought 26 times in the UFC, aims to rebound from a tough loss to Andrei Arlovski in September. Prior to the Arlovski fight, Mir defeated Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Todd Duffee by first round knockout, showing dramatic improvements in his boxing.
He’ll need to show continued improvement in boxing if he wants to stand with Mark Hunt, one of the UFC’s most beloved knockout artists, who has finished 8 of his 11 victories in MMA by way of KO. Hunt, who is also a former K1 Grand Prix champion, might be the heaviest hitter on the UFC roster and is also coming off a knockout victory over Bigfoot Silva.
Based on Mir’s last three performances, don’t be surprised to see Mir throw caution to the wind and throw hands with Hunt. Neither fighter has demonstrated discipline by sticking to a game plan, but rather has shown a propensity to put on a show for the fans. The main event is a fan favorite in the making, with Hunt coming in as a slight favorite anywhere between -170 and -110.
In my opinion, this isn’t a fight worth betting on. For those of you looking to cash in on this card, I’d hedge my bets on Neil Magny over Hector Lombard, Alan Jouban over Brendan O’Reilly, and Ross Pearson over Chad Laprise.
If Mir gets into wild exchanges like he did with Todd Duffee, don’t be surprised to see him on the business end of a beating.
