France U21s striker Anthony Martial has signed for Manchester United in a 4 year deal worth £36.3m.
The forward joins Manchester United as a promising young centre forward and among one of the most exciting prospects in European football. The French striker has made 60 appearances for Monaco in all competitions since his move from Lyon in 2013, scoring 13 goals over 3 seasons.
The move for the Monaco forward was paved through after France coach Didier Deschamps gave the striker permission to leave the France squad and travel to England to complete his move to Manchester United.
This is now Manchester United’s sixth signing of the summer, one that will bolster their attacking department after the sale of Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen and will surely help improve their attack.
He is cited by many pundits and coaches as the next Thierry Henry due to his similar playing style to the former France and Arsenal legend because of his speed, power and eye for goal.
Martial is a regular within the France youth set up, featuring in the France U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21s teams. Since 2013, he scored 4 goals in 12 appearances for the promising France U21s side.
However the French forward is yet to make an appearance in the senior squad, something that could change in the coming week after being called up by Deschamps to the senior squad for the friendlies against Serbia and Portugal.
Martial started his career at Lyon where at youth level scored an incredible 32 goals in just 21 games before joining Lyon’s senior squad in the 2012-13 season.
After 3 appearances at Lyon, he was sold for €5 million to Monaco and made his professional debut at 17 years old against FC Nantes where he made an immediate impact in the build up of Monaco’s winning goal.
His last appearance for the French side was in their 3-0 loss to Paris Saint Germain on Sunday, playing the full 90 minutes.
Arsenal fans many recognise his name due to him starting on the left wing for Monaco at the Emirates in their Champions League last 16 knockout game earlier this year. The young Frenchman was also a part of the quick counter attack leading up to Berbatov’s goal in which he squared the ball to the ex-Manchester United and Fulham striker to score.
