The Vaudevillians Can Save The Tag Team Division

We all know that Vince McMahon doesn’t believe in the Tag Team division.  We have all heard the stories that he believes there is no future, you can’t create anything new in the division, basically it was all done and dusted in the Attitude Era.

Back in the late 90s and early 00s the Tag Team division was by far one of my greatest loves of pro wrestling. Watching Edge and Christian (a duo I never really took to), The Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boys, Rock and Sock Connection, Legion of Doom, APA and The New Age Outlaws all going hammer and tong for each other was just superb. They were the people that set the heights of high flying craziness that we now see in singles competition. The very first TLC Match still remains one of my all time greatest matches and it’s a shame that the tag team division has been so stifled in recent years.

“I can see a saviour in NXT, naym a true game changer”

I believe it has been stifled so much because WWE have lost the art of keeping Tag Teams together. None of the teams stick together longer than 18 months (except the Uso’s) and therefore, how can you build anything around an ever changing division? It’s no surprise that the Tag Teams have been built, then split up, then built again if the head of the company doesn’t believe in it anymore.

However, I can see a saviour in NXT nay a true game changer. They can undeniably take huge steps into rebuilding the Tag Team division when they get the chance…as I believe they will.

The Vaudevillians at present are the number one contenders for the NXT Tag Team Titles, a belt they will undeniably win at some point which should then set them up for a transfer to the main roster quite nicely. But why and how can they save the Tag Team division…?

When I look back at the Tag Teams of the Attitude Era what made them great was their fantastic unity. When they competed in singles competition they were not representing themselves they were representing their Tag Team. No superstar was bigger than the team and as individuals grew so did their partner. This has been lost. Singles competition has been put before all team work and strength in numbers. No team seems to stay together longer than a year or 18 months and therefore how can the WWE Universe get behind a team of superstars?

Another point is that The Vaudevillians will enter the WWE together. They won’t have been thrown together because their singles careers are fledgling and WWE need to do something with them.  This will help them believe in themselves as a duo, and hopefully they can cause as much havoc in the division as possible…after all that’s what NXT Superstars do isn’t it?

The Vaudevillians have a great gimmick and I really believe they are in the mold of the greats. The WWE Universe will love hearing their entrance and watching them go toe to toe with New Day, Cesaro and Kidd (injuries permitting), The Usos and The Prime Time Players. When you look at that list of tag teams…it’s exciting. Even without Cesaro and Kidd I still feel with The Vaudevillians in there makes it a really exciting division. WWE just need to rev them all up and watch them go.  They have to give them time to find their feet, and then let them all loose on each other, let them build their stories and their character arcs over the course of three months, not three weeks.

“I already adore their entrance”

Aiden English and Simon Gotch understand that tagging is about the spirit of two or three. They work well together and they will undeniably get better and better.  They know who they are, and they understand  their characters extremely well….similar to The New Day, which is the bedrock of success in Tag Team work – all they need to tick all of the boxes is a great catchphrase and they will be there.  I already adore their entrance.

I hope they make the move soon, and I hope it happens whilst all of the Tag Teams currently in the WWE are still together because I can see some great moves towards support and success in the Tag Team division within WWE. The Vaudevillians, the old fashioned bruisers can undeniably help save the Tag Team Division in the WWE and engine the spirit of the past throughout the WWE Universe.
