The Cheap Seats in Gotham: Mets Superhero Rotation

The view from The Cheap Seats comes from Gotham this week, as we look at the new look rotation of the very young New York Mets. Only fools will try to compare these babes in the woods to great rotations of the past. You simply can not. Not yet. This is more like a brief introduction to New York City’s new super-heroes. If you aren’t watching these kids every time you get a chance, it’s time to change those habits. This is the beginning of a legendary story that is in its infancy.

The Cheap Seats in Gotham: Mets Superhero Rotation

The Dark Knight, otherwise known as Matt Harvey, anchors this rotation. His demeanor is that of a once young John Smoltz. Strictly business on the mound, Harvey is a true ace. Fans already jam the seats to see this phenom. Just wait until the offense and wins follow him in Citi-Field.

Jacob deGrom looks like the number two, and that’s more like a 1-A. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year Award winner, and owner of a career ERA below 2.50 is enough to wow you. Add to the fact he struck out the side in the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, like the flash blowing by, and this could be the beginning of legendary status in the Big Apple.

Noah Syndergaard, aka ‘Thor’, looks the part. A long blonde mop flying out of his cap, Syndergaard may be the most talented of all. In just a small dose, here in 2015 (his rookie year), Noah Syndergaard has already struck out 13 in one outing. He’s young and raw, but there are times he looks flat out untouchable.

The southpaw Steven Matz is the latest fireballer to arrive in Gotham. He’s expected to spend a short time on the DL, as he has a sore shoulder, but he’s already shined in his few debuts. A lefty like that just makes this rotation even more deadly. In future years, it will be crucial to be able to set a postseason rotation with a young dominate south paw. That kind of balance will keep hitting coaches up very late year round. He may be the team’s Superman down the line, and they already have Captain America ( David Wright).

Many will scoff at this super hero status stowed upon this staff, but the talent and potential is real. If their health holds, you can mark these words: The New York Mets will be October-bound for many years to come, and pennants will drape in Gotham from Queens for the ‘Evil Empire’ in the Bronx to witness.
