Barcelona vs Real Madrid: El Clásico Preview

Sunday afternoon’s match up between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will be one of the biggest games of the Footballing calendar year. La Liga currently sees Luis Enrique’s Barcelona at the top of the league table with 65 points while Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are only one point behind with 64. Recent poor displays from Real Madrid in the Champions League and La Liga mean fans of Los Blancos will have to worry about an FC Barcelona who are one of the favourites in the Champions League and on a hot run of form. Another piece that will make Sunday’s Clásico special is that the 2014-15 La Liga season is on the line for the Spanish giants.

Barcelona enter El Clasico on a high note after winning their last five games with a clear skill advantage over their opponents. Lionel Messi has also displayed some tremendous football this month and it doesn’t seem like he’ll be stopping any time soon: after all the Argentine is hungry for trophies after a dry spell in 2013-14, so for Messi, this game is a top priority. Barcelona star Luis Suarez has also recently found his form and is becoming a goal scoring machine that seems to synchronize with Messi and Neymar to deliver a world class attack, one that we might see dominate this Sunday.

Real Madrid have had a poor start to the year and have not played up to the level expected by most fans, winning a surprising two of their last five games. Real Madrid were in full control of La Liga at the end of 2014 but have failed to find their style in 2015. Gareth Bale has been heavily criticized for his lack of form recently, however the Welshman delivered two critic-silencing goals on March 15th against Levante. Real Madrid will play with a star-studded attack that has recently lost its shine. A win for Real Madrid will allow them to take first place in La Liga meaning that the pressure to win is high for Ancelotti’s squad.

El Clásico will be decisive in this year’s trophy chase and Lionel Messi’s recent form is instilling fear in some Merengue fans. However, Cristiano Ronaldo will want to take the leading goal scorer mark away from Messi and will give everything to get on the scoresheet. All of these factors just pit Sunday’s matchup between Barcelona and Real Madrid, as one of the most exciting games of the year. You won’t want to miss it.
