Formula E Half Term Report: Team China

An average start for Team China managed by Campos Racing saw Nelson Piquet Jr and Ho-Pin Tung line up 10th with Tung taking a 10-place grid penalty for a change of gearbox for the Beijing ePrix. They kept below the radar for most of the race with Piquet finishing eighth picking up a solid four points while Tung struggled home 16th.

Putrajaya proved slightly more fruitful, for Piquet at least qualifying sixth with Tung in 15th. However, it was a poor race. Piquet retired and Tung finished just outside the points in 11th. In Punta del Este, due to Asia Le Mans commitments reserve driver Antonio Garcia took to the Formula E car qualifying 15th while Piquet stunned positioning himself in second place. The race proved a hectic one, however both cars made it to the end with Garcia finishing a respectable 11th while Piquet registered his first podium on first podium of the year in second place.

Tung returned for Buenos Aires qualifying in an average 15th position while Piquet left frustrated in ninth. After yet another dramatic race Piquet worked his way up to third and Tung 11th. However, both were given post race penalties. Tung a time penalty for not respecting the minimum pit stop time whilst Piquet takes a five-place grid penalty for the next round due to speeding under yellow flags.

Nevertheless, the last couple of Podiums for the team have propelled them up the order as they head optimistically into the second half of the season. And with the addition of the Moscow round, more points will be up for grabs. China Racing lies in sixth with Piquet highest of the China Racing drivers and fifth in the driver’s standings.
