The Formula One grid has been filled for 2015, barring any sudden re-emergences of Caterham and Marussia, with McLaren-Honda finally announcing their two drivers for next season.
Fernando Alonso re-joins the team which he so famously fell out with in 2007, whilst Jenson Button is retained for a sixth season. 22-year-old Kevin Magnussen is forced to quit Formula One after just a single season. Whilst Button fans will be happy with the decision, neutrals will feel that the young Dane has been incredibly hard done by.
With over 450 Grand Prix between them, the pair will become the oldest and most experienced line-up on the grid. It will also be one of two teams with a pair of world champions, with long-time rivals Ferrari running the most successful line-up on the grid in the shape of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen.
Magnussen’s 2015 whereabouts is yet to be disclosed, along with what Stoffel Vandoorne is doing, although the Belgian is expected to run in GP2 for a second year. Hopefully McLaren announces Alonso & Button for 2015 does not signal an end to both young driver’s careers, given the talent that both has shown.
