Real Talk: Jimmy Graham fined by the NFL

We watch all the sports channels and a few times a week we see another professional athlete who is being fined.  The reasons for being fined vary by athlete and are on a case by case basis.  But, when do fines become too much?  Lets take a look.

There is absolutely no doubt that I love what the NFL has done with their safety procedures.  The simple point is that if you compromise the safety of another athlete, you will be punished.  That’s the way it should be, especially in the NFL.  Some will disagree and say that the game is becoming too soft or they are not letting the defensive secondary play.  In my opinion, safety is the first priority and as someone who has dealt with concussions, it’s something that is worth preventing.

Real Talk: Jimmy Graham fined by the NFL

But that’s not why I am here. It was the fine of one football player this week that garnered my attention.  When Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was fined $30,000 for his dunking touchdown celebration, I had to raise the question: When is it enough?  I am a huge fan of Jimmy Graham’s passion and always look forward to his one hand slam.  In my opinion, I do not believe he should have been fined.  It was a celebration that we saw the great Tony Gonzalez do time after time.  It is a signature for Graham, just like the Victor Cruz salsa dance or whatever the BJ Raji move was.

What do you think? Was the NFL justified in the fine of Jimmy Graham’s celebration? Sound off in the comments below or reply to me on Twitter, I would love to hear what you all think!
