Plenty of Big Ten softies – Wisconsin Schedule Preview

Barry Alvarez built a program to last. Madison, Wisconsin was wasteland for College Football in the 70’s and 80’s, but Alvarez shocked the nation with a Big Ten Title and Rose Bowl winner in 1993. The Badgers have been rock solid ever since with Bret Bielema and now Gary Andersen building on Alvarez’ initial work. Now the ever contending Wisconsin Badgers head into 2014 with a schedule set up to win big or face big disappointment. The Big Ten rotation coupled with Bucky’s good fortune means Wisconsin misses the new Eastern Division’s big four – Ohio State, Michigan State, Michgan and Penn State. However, Wisconsin also misses 13 of 22 starters from last year’s 9-4 squad that took a 4th ranked South Carolina team to the final minutes of play in the Capital One Bowl. Add an inexperienced quarterback to the mix in dual threat Tanner McEvoy and the ceiling to basement gap is much wider than usual for the #14 ranked team in the AP & Coaches’ polls. Mark Rogers takes a look at his most anticipated non-conference matchup of Week 1 and the Badgers’ important stretch drive to a hopeful Big Ten Title Game
