Bryce Young Trade

Former NFL Quarterback Proposes Absurd 3-Way Trade Between Panthers, Rams, Dolphins

Head coach Dave Canales benched former first-round pick Bryce Young, but the Panthers leader says the team won’t trade him. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, as it could be the head coach’s way of telling other teams to bump off their offer. We’ve seen several organizations in the past claim that their guys were off-limits only to change their mind once higher offers came in, and the same thing could be happening here. Chances are, Bryce Young has played his last snap in Carolina, and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel proposed an unconventional three-team deal.

Figuring out a Bryce Young trade is no easy feat. On the one hand, he’s only 16 months removed from being the first-overall pick after an impressive career at Alabama. On the other hand, he’s had one of the worst starts to a career we’ve ever seen, notably outpacing infamous draft bust Zach Wilson. With the Dolphins needing a quarterback and the Rams season looking over, Daniel believes the Rams could trade Matthew Stafford to the Dolphins, acquire Bryce Young, and have Carolina end up with Miami’s second-round pick and Los Angeles’ third-round pick.

Chase Daniel Proposed Absurd Bryce Young Trade Between Panthers, Rams, Dolphins

While Daniel deserves credit for thinking outside of the box with this potential Bryce Young trade, there are a few reasons this could never happen. Let’s start with the Rams. While the team is 0-2 following an absurd run of injuries, trading Stafford would effectively mean giving up on the season, and it’s hard to see the team doing that after just two games. Despite his age, Stafford is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and has the talent to power any roster to a few wins. Even if injuries sink this season, Los Angeles will want to bring him back and compete in 2025.

While the Dolphins would love someone like Matthew Stafford, the Rams would never give him up without receiving a great return. However, that’s not the only problem with this Bryce Young trade. Daniel seems to be under the impression that Carolina could get two Day 2 picks for the Alabama product, but history does not support that notion.

The Panthers Return

As mentioned above, Bryce Young had a disastrous start to his career, and this will undoubtedly affect his trade value. Daniel believes that Carolina can effectively deal the former first-overall pick for a second- and third-round selection and that the Rams would happily swap an aging Stafford for Young, but that’s probably not too realistic. Using history as a guide, the closest comparison we have to Bryce Young is 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen. The UCLA product struggled in a terrible environment as a rookie and never had a second chance to prove himself with the Arizona Cardinals. First-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury selected Kyler Murray with the first-overall pick and proceeded to trade Rosen to Miami for a late second-round pick.

Like Rosen, Young is a highly drafted player who had a disastrous start in a poor environment. The biggest difference is that Young had a chance to prove himself in better surroundings and couldn’t answer the call. Carolina spent the offseason surrounding Young with NFL-caliber talent, and he responded with a disastrous two-game stretch. Miami lost the Rosen trade, so chances are, the Panthers will have to settle for much, much less if they decide to deal Bryce Young.
