Why the future of the WWE Divas division is looking bright

The women of WWE have had to deal with being an afterthought of the company since the likes of Trish Stratus and Lita left the business almost eight years ago.

Since then Divas have been on par with the mid-carders and have usually been given the hardest spots to fill on the pay-per-views whilst also being expected to deliver, like at Wrestlemania when they were expected to follow The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar match.

This is how it has been for the women for so long that the WWE Universe have come to expect very little from them. That is until now.

WWE has some of the best female wrestling talent down in NXT, meaning the likes of Eva Marie are no longer needed on WWE TV because Divas division competitors like  Emma, Summer Rae, Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss are all Divas that could be genuine Divas championship contenders in the future.

Meanwhile already called up Divas like Alicia Fox, Natalya, Rosa Mendez and now Naomi and Cameron are all being used accordingly with the latter really showing signs of ring improvement and really look to have been working on their characters.

Nikki and Brie Bella are also two of the most improved divas in the ring and just in time as it seems the women of wrestling are in for a busy summer.

Battleground was the first pay-per-view in recent memory that actually had two Divas matches on the card as AJ Lee defended her Divas Championship against Paige and Naomi went one-on-one with former teammate Cameron in the Kick-Off. This is a far cry from the Royal Rumble where time restraints meant there were no women on the card at all.

Wrestlemania 29 saw the Divas match removed completely due to timing issues and no-one batted an eyelid. Not any more; Summerslam is just around the corner and right now there are three of the best rivalries going on in the women’s division and with one match already announced, it’s almost certain that for the first time in forever there will be two divas matches at back to back pay-per-views.

Not only is there quite possibly the most anticipated divas matches in recent memory happening between Brie Bella and principle owner of the company Stephanie McMahon, but there could also be a pretty hyped up Divas Championship re-match as the Paige and AJ feud finally seems to be reaching a point of interest.

There is no doubt that after the Divas closed Raw, for the first time in over a decade on Monday night that Stephanie dusting off her ring gear and taking on Brie will be a highlight of the night and because she is one of the owners of the company you know she is going to have ample time for this match and not thrown out there, given five minutes and expected to perform.

The third and final feud involves Cameron and Naomi as the Funkadactyls rivalry seems to have also reached boiling point and we could see a rematch from Battleground between the former friends meaning there could be just as many Divas matches as male superstars, something that has never happened in WWE.

The future of the division is looking brighter than it ever has; many thought Total Divas would take away from the wrestling but now it seems the show has lifted everyone involved. With the women set to come through the ranks and the talent already available, there is no way these Divas are going down without a fight.
