Dirk Nowitzki moves into 16th All-time amongst NBA Scorers

Dirk Nowitzki may not have the same impact on the NBA today as he has had in previous years, but he’s given us a little nudge to remind us how incredible he really is. He is now 16th all-time amongst NBA scorers with 25,194 points.  When he shot back-to-back three pointers against the Washington Wizards  on Tuesday, Nowitzki overtook Jerry West, moving himself into 16th in the record books.

Next on Nowitzki’s milestone list is Reggie Miller, who sits 15th in the NBA’s all-time scoring annals. You can just imagine the words “I’m coming for you” in a heavy German accent being uttered from behind Nowitzki’s mythical beard. And he’s only 85 points behind Miller, it shouldn’t be long now…

We all know that Nowitzki is not the same player he used to be. Sure, his productivity is now declining and his fade away jump shot is no longer the best jump shot in the league, but he is still a valuable member of the Dallas Mavericks. As we reflect on this milestone, let’s just take the time to admire eveything the German born forward has achieved to date:

·         11 time All Star

·         2007 MVP

·         NBA winner and Finals MVP 2011

·         2 time European player of the year

·         FIBA world cup MVP 2002

So what really grinds my gears is when people tell me that Nowitzki is a thing of the past. In 2011 he was the one who destroyed Miami with his fade away bank shot. That was only 2 years ago: So lay off the Caveman please.

85 points isn’t a lot. Soon Dirk will be 15th, so on and so on. I wish our German friend luck in his quest to become the NBA’s best all-time scorer… He’s only an approximately 13,000 points behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: soon guys, soon…
