UFC Marketing Aside, is Johny Hendricks the Real Deal?

Johny “Big Rigg” Hendricks has a very prestigious upcoming bout on November 16th with welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre. This will be a fierce competition that will keep many people in their seats. Does Hendricks have a remote shot of beating the “eleven straight title defending” St. Pierre? I believe so and here’s why: Johny has jaw-dropping power, explosive wrestling, high-level conditioning and a confident mindset that is a must.

“Big Rigg” has knocked out eight out of fifteen fighters in his recent fights. This substantial power could pose as a treacherous threat for Georges St Pierre. Johny comes with a nasty left hook that can leave many people sleeping. GSP is notorious for being a very patient fighter and is disliked because of that. On the other side of things, Hendricks comes in with an aggressive in the face behavior that will catch “Rush” off guard. What if he can’t knock GSP out? How will Johny Hendricks prevail?

Johny comes with a great wrestling background; he wrestled at Oklahoma State and was a two time Division-I National Champion with his time there. Georges St. Pierre is positioned as one of the greatest “self” taught wrestlers in the UFC with an 88% takedown defense to back his name, but Johny has better credentials and an all-around better wrestling game. If Johny chooses he will be able to take GSP down at any time.

Many young contenders do not know how to prepare for the five round five minute fights. Johny Hendricks is a different person; he brings a great mindset that will assure he is in the best shape for the fight. Hendricks will be able to keep a pace that will catch GSP off guard. Johny knows what things he can control in this fight (heart, cardio, mindset) and he will assure that all of those factors will be in check for the fight. Johny also has a tough mindset that will allow him to prevail through adversity.

Johny comes in with a lot of similar competition to Geaorges St. Pierre; one of them being Carlos Condit, who was beaten by both of them by an unanimous decision. Johny Hendricks has a lot of the abilities on his side for this fight. Johny comes in with a record of 15-1 in the UFC;  GSP has not lost since 2007. Johny “Big Rigg” Hendricks will pose a big threat for GSP, and I believe may beat St. Pierre. We will have to wait and tune into UFC 167 on Saturday, November 16th to see who will win.

Other main card bouts: Co-Main Event – Chael Sonnen vs Rashad Evans, MacDonald vs Lawler, Koscheck vs Woodley,  Elliot vs Bagautinov.

All action on the main card will kick off at 10PM EST on Pay-Per-View.
