Redskins Add a Pair of Veteran Receivers

The Washington Redskins have added to their receiving corps with a pair of veteran NFL recievers.  The Redskins have signed Donte Stallworth, and Devery Henderson to a pair of one year deals.

This is Stallworth’s second stint with the Redskins as he played for the team in 2011.  He has played 11 NFL seasons and has 321 receptions for 4837 yards, and 35 touchdowns in his career.  Stallworth was originally a first round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2002 draft.

Stallworth was involved in a highly publicized incident this offseason, where a hot-air balloon with him and his wife collided with power lines.  Stallworth suffered burns in the incident, but has recovered enough to perform at the recent Redskins’ minicamp.

Stallworth played just 1 game in 2012, for the Patriots, he caught one pass for 63 yards and a touchdown before injuring his foot and being placed on injured reserver.

Henderson has spent his entire 9 year career with the New Orleans Saints, after being a 2nd round pick in the 2004 draft.  He has 245 career receptions, for 4377 yards and 20 touchdowns.  He was part of the Super Bowl XLIV winning squad for the Saints.

Henderson has long been known as a deep threat due to his very good speed.  He was made expendable for the Saints after the emergence of Lance Moore and Joseph Morgan last season. Of course Marques Colston remains the Saints number one receiver.

Henderson and Stallworth are both expected to compete for backup receiver roles with the Redskins.  The team continues to add depth and experience to their offence as they try to surround rookie sensation Robert Griffin III with the pieces necessary to help them take the next step to the Superbowl.
