His name wide receiver Jordan Jolly has already signed.
So has his league MVP quarterback, Charles McCullum.
Next, Billy Back will be announced as the next head coach of the Cedar Rapids Titans.
Billy Back to be named Next Head Coach of Cedar Rapids Titans
Back will come to Cedar Rapids with at least two of his players from a more than successful Wichita Falls Nighthawks team that will not be fielding a squad this season.
Last season, Wichita Falls earned a 12-4 record in Back’s second season as head coach of the team.
If it hadn’t been for the three best regular season records sitting in the same conference, Back and the Nighthawks would have found themselves in the playoffs for a second year in a row.
The year prior, Back turned a 5-9 Nighthawks squad into an 11-5 offensive powerhouse. Him paired with McCullum, Jolly, and his plethora of offensive stars was enough to land the team into the United Conference Playoffs.
Wichita Falls advanced to the conference championship game and Back was named 2016 Indoor Football League (IFL) coach of the year.
Now, Back will try to turn around Cedar Rapids.
In 2017, the Titans were coached by former Iowa Hawkeye wide receiver Marvin McNutt, and it didn’t turn out great.
Cedar Rapids finished the season with a 1-15 record, with its only win being against the 3-13 Green Bay Blizzard.
Now, 2016 coach of the year (Back), and 2017 coach of the year in Dixie Wooten of the Iowa Barnstormers, will meet each other quite frequently.
Last year, the two teams met four times, and that could very well happen again depending on what the IFL schedule brings when it comes out later this year.
Iowa took the series 4-0 between the two teams last season, but Back’s Wichita Falls squad split the year with the team.
We’ll see what 2018 has to fair for both teams come February. Until then, stay caught up with the latest news on indoor football by following us on twitter at @LWOS_IndoorFB.
