Michael Carberry Diagnosed with Cancerous Tumour

Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour, a club statement says. The 35-year-old had to see a specialist in the last few days after complaining of illness after several matches this season. Most recently, he missed his side’s County Championship match against Warwickshire.

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “I would like to send him and his family our very best wishes at this very difficult time.

“‘Carbs’ has taken on and beaten serious illness before and we will be doing all we can to make sure he does the same again this time.”

As Bransgrove mentioned in his statement, Carberry has had health problems before. He missed the beginning of the 2011 season due to recovering from a blood clot on his lung. He recovered without much drama and was able to get back to playing cricket within a matter of months. He even scored a triple century later on in that same season.

Carberry has had a successful cricket career. He has scored over 12,000 runs in 182 first-class matches and represented his country on 13 occasions in all three forms of the game. His resilience was a rare bright spot in England’s disastrous tour of Australia in 2013-14, where they lost the Test series 5-0.

The cricket world is united in wishing the best for “Carbs”, with many tweets pouring in in support of him.

He will now have further tests before receiving treatment.
