Mauricio Pochettino's Contract Must be Renewed

A Pochettino contract renewal is absolutely deserved, for he has developed Spurs as a club with a daring and Stakhanovite philosophy.

A Pochettino contract renewal must be at the top of the list for Daniel Levy. The current manager has revolutionised and rejuvenated Tottenham, is critical to the club and must be kept for the near future.

Players such as Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembélé have rocketed from mediocrity to stardom. Lamela, who was always deemed to have intangible potential, has proven his worth countless times whilst Dembélé has taken on a brand new authority, importance and consistency. Pochettino has to take some credit for the revelations of such players, who were then teetering on the edge of the squad but have now been transformed into hard-working first team players.

Player to manager relationships are crucial for any winning squad because of the harmony it creates. These relations are hard to form when a club constantly changes its staff. This has been a predicament at Spurs, who went from Harry Redknapp to Andre Villas-Boas and then to Tim Sherwood in an incredibly short space of time. To develop the roots of stability that have already started to grow, a long-term project must be in place.

Pochettino’s investment in youth has worked dividends so far, and having the same man coaching them for a long period of time will help even more. With one of the youngest squads in the Premier League, he has even created young English talent which seemed extinct for such a long period. The England national team is now so much stronger with the emergence of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

With the likes of Harry Winks, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Joshua Onomah leading the next generation of Spurs youth, the future looks incredibly promising. If they are to continue this ongoing project to develop young players, Pochettino must be awarded a new contract.

There have been lots of rumours spouted about Pochettino being chased by the likes of Manchester United. This just demonstrates his fantastic and innovative managerial ability, that even the most illustrious of clubs are desperately seeking him. It’s not surprising, for Spurs sit second in the Premier League. He has given fans a restored sense of pride and enthusiasm in his pursuit for the league title. Even the once disparaging and deplorable pundits are now starting to praise and even hail the club. A manager of his ability is in high demand across the continent, and so Levy must act fast to keep him.

Pochettino could be Tottenham’s first manager to win the Premier League. He has instilled his players with a philosophy of hard graft and double training sessions to give the team a stronger backbone. No longer do fans expect a turning over at Manchester City. No longer do the players falter in the final minutes.

Finally, Spurs resemble a proud and spirited football club again. The progress of the club has been extraordinary under Pochettino, his tactics and measures allowing the players to flourish under his reign. If there is no silverware by the end of the season, then there will definitely be future spoils if his contract is extended.
