Report: Nuggets Fire Head Coach Brian Shaw

After a 20-39 start to the season, the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Brian Shaw. This decision will not shock many, as the team has lost 18 of their last 20 games, including a current six game losing streak. Assistant Melvin Hunt will take over as the Nuggets’ interim head coach, and he will most likely remain there for the rest of the season.

Shaw has been with the Nuggets for less than two full seasons, and the team’s front office has finally decided that enough is enough. Denver and Shaw have been unlucky in recent years, as the team has been plagued with injuries that have clearly halted the team’s progress. With the Nuggets competing in the tough Western Conference, their injuries have been unforgiving to both their coach and their record.

Denver definitely needed a change. At the end of a recent team huddle the team broke out with a very depressing reference regarding end of the season; the players all shouted, “1, 2, 3, six weeks!”

Brian Shaw has plenty of experience in the NBA, as both a player and coach, so finding a new job will not be difficult. Shaw has been an assistant coach for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Indiana Pacers. In my personal opinion, Shaw will end up as one of Derek Fisher’s assistants in New York. Shaw and Fisher have a very close relationship, dating back to when they used to play together on very talented Lakers teams.
