Stamps Add Pair on Defence: Freddy Griggs and Brendan Denmark

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive back Freddy Griggs and international defensive lineman Brendan Denmark. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Griggs played 10 games, including nine starts, at William Penn University in 2014. He had 45 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. He returned one of the picks for a touchdown. Griggs also had three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. On special teams, he returned 10 kickoffs for 227 yards.

The Tallahassee, Fla., product played 11 games for the Statesmen in 2013 and had 36 tackles as well as nine kickoff returns for 157 yards and two punt returns for three yards. Prior to transferring to William Penn, Griggs played two seasons at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.

Denmark signed with the National Football League’s Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on July 26, 2014, after completing his collegiate career at Florida A&M.

Also a Tallahassee native – as a matter of fact, he and Griggs were teammates at James S. Rickards High School – Denmark played 12 games for Florida A&M as a senior in 2013 and recorded 59 total tackles including 12 tackles for loss. He also had four sacks two forced fumbles and a blocked kick.

In 2012, Denmark had 54 total tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 games for the Rattlers. Prior to transferring to Florida A&M, Denmark attended the University of Illinois. In two seasons with the Fighting Illini (2010-11), Denmark played 19 games and made 12 tackles including two tackles for loss.
