Fury FC Transfer Chatter – Mike Randolph to Sign

Ottawa Fury FC’s retooling ahead of the 2015 NASL season continues this afternoon, as the club has announced it will sign a ‘veteran left-back’ with experience at every level of North American football.  The club further revealed a picture of the player in the same Los Angeles Galaxy team as David Beckham this morning.

Fury FC Transfer Chatter – Mike Randolph to Sign

I expect Fury FC to sign 29 year-old leftback Mike Randolph on a free transfer, after his contract with another NASL club concluded in November.

Randolph, who made thirty-nine appearances for Los Angeles between 2006 and 2008, spent last season in the NASL as captain of an Atlanta Silverbacks team that nosedived amidst ownership issues and subsequent off-field problems.

The California native will join Fury FC after a decent 2014 campaign in Atlanta in which he made 18 starts, racking up over 1500 minutes on the pitch.  While Randolph did deal with an injury over several weeks during the fall campaign, he returned to start the final game of what was ultimately a forgettable 2014 season for the Silverbacks.

Despite persistent rumours that Fury FC were in the process of trying to sign Silverbacks attacking midfielder Kwadwo Poku, it appears the club’s bid failed, as Poku’s club option has been picked up for the 2015 season.  Highly unfortunate, as Poku brought the kind of creativity and energy in the midfield that Fury FC lacked on occasion in 2014.

However, the retention of Poku is a huge step in the right direction for Atlanta, who will be looking for some consistency in 2015 under new manager Gary Smith.  Multiple clubs showed interest in Poku, and for the Silverbacks to hold on to a player of his calibre gives their valiant band of remaining fans something to be hopeful for this coming season.
