Fantasy Premier League Transfer Tips: Gameweek 4

The pain of no Premier League football last weekend was felt unanimously by all football fans. For your patience, you are rewarded with a treat this weekend. Arsenal face Manchester City to start off on Saturday, then a feast of new players will be on show from the likes of Manchester United later on in the weekend. Gameweek 3 saw many managers following the trend of taking Costa out of their team and then face palming as he went on to rack up the points yet again. So then, who will shine and who will crumble this week? Here are my Gameweek 4 ins and Outs:

Goalkeeper:

Out: Wojciech Szczesny (£5.6m) – A popular choice in net, but this week facing Manchester City a clean sheet would look unlikely. Although it’s not an impossibility Arsenal could keep a clean sheet, their form suggests a goal or two conceded against Manchester City should be expected. The Gunners will have to be at their best to keep out Sergio Aguero and company in this weekends earlier fixture.

In: Simon Mignolet (5.5m) – Ok, so you might not save a fortune, but this week it looks a logical move. Liverpool face Aston Villa at home this Saturday, who with the absence of Benteke still look to lack a significant goal threat. Mignolet and the Liverpool defence should be able to hold out against Villa, it is certainly less risky than keeping Szczesny in your team, this week, at least.

Defence:

Out: Ashley Williams (5.0m) – If you did follow previous tips from myself, you might have a Swansea defender in your team. Quit while you’re ahead. Swansea have only conceded 1 goal (joint best in the league) this season. However, against table toppers Chelsea it will be hard to keep out an array of quality attacking players, especially away from home. Swansea have made an excellent start to the season, but between themselves and Chelsea you would have to say the latter team are more likely to keep their run of form going.

In: Ryan Shawcross (5.6m) – You may have thought a Chelsea player was coming as a replacement. Although suitable, striving for the cheaper options is always preferable, if they do the job, of course. Shawcross boasts the second most points as a defender in the FPL market right now, it’s likely against Leicester he may just get another clean sheet and who knows another goal too.

Midfield:

Out: Juan Mata (8.9m) – Manchester United fans might argue the Di Maria and Falcao captures may revitalise Mata. At 8.9m he is still very expensive though and you might be just as well off spending that money on Di Maria or Falcao themselves. These next few weeks will certainly be important for Juan Mata. Will he be overshadowed by the new signings or act like another new signing for United? Time will tell, but for his price let time tell before you splash out the money to have him in your team on a permanent basis.

In: Raheem Sterling (8.7m) – Cheaper, better, must-have. Yes, a lot of fellow players will have him in their team but for less than Mata and many other midfielders in the market he has to be a part of your team. This could very well be Raheem Sterling’s breakaway season (not that he hasn’t already impressed), make sure he’s in your team so you can enjoy his success. Expect some points against Villa this weekend, if he reaches his usual standards.

Strikers

Out: Jovetic (8.2m) – If, like many you made a complete hash of things before the break and took Costa out for Jovetic it’s time to amend your ways. He is currently a doubt for the game against Arsenal and simply isn’t worth the risk. The likelihood is Dzeko will make a comeback alongside Aguero, but after Costa’s surprise comeback in Gameweek 3, who knows what might happen. One thing is for sure, despite his goals against Liverpool he still is finding his way as a reliable goalscorer, at the moment there are better and more importantly more reliable options to choose from as your main striker.

In: Danny Welbeck (7.0m) – A bold move, yes. At the Etihad when the two teams met last year, there were 9 goals (3 for Arsenal). Every pundit is raving about the potential Welbeck has. The more cynical among you may think such hype is premature, but at a price of £7m he doesn’t have to be your main striker. After two goals for England on Monday, what’s to say Welbeck won’t get on the scoresheet on his Arsenal debut this weekend? With the help of Alexis Sanchez, Ozil and even Aaron Ramsey if deemed fit, his supply line is as good as it gets.
