USMNT Lineup Prediction vs Canada for Gold Cup July 9

USMNT Lineup Prediction vs Canada

PREVIEW – Tomorrow the United States Men’s National Team play in the 2023 Gold Cup Quarterfinals. They will play Canada at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Yanks cruised through the group stage after a disappointing performance against Jamaica, winning Group A. Canada, on the other hand has had a disappointing summer. They were poor in the Nations League Final against the USMNT. Now a reserve team barely got out of the group thanks to a 4-2 win against a depleted Cuba side.

USMNT Recent Games:

The Yanks padded the goal difference against Saint Kitts and Nevis and then Trinidad and Tobago. Jesús Ferreira has scored hat tricks in the last two games. The supporting cast is chipping in offensively as well. Đorđe Mihailović has done good work in the build up. Cade Cowell and Brandon Vazquez are chipping in. Alejandro Zendejas has yet to have a shinning moment. Matt Turner has come up big the few times he’s been asked to. They still have concerns defending in transition, which will be tested at some point.

B.J. Callaghan continues to rotate his squad. Only three players started all three group stage games: James Sands, Zendejas, and Ferreira. It could very well be a fourth different lineup tomorrow. Matt Miazga was the one player who started the first two group stage matches who did not start against T&T. He did not look sharp on the ball coming off the bench and could be a liability playing out of the back.

USMNT Absences to Consider:

Aidan Morris departed the team prior to last game for personal reasons. Alan Soñora missed that game as well due to a hamstring injury. He’s been replaced by San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Jackson Yueill. Do not expect Yuiell to start tomorrow. He is the closest parallel to Sands though and should be a useful sub option. Pending a further announcement about a player replacing Morris ahead of the Canada game, the Yanks could be playing with an incomplete bench the rest of the way. A week of rest between games will certainly help them going into the knockout stage. Hopefully those legs do not get too heavy should the U.S. make the final and have to play Mexico.
