USMNT Abroad Summer Transfer Look Ahead

usmnt abroad

With the club season and international window in the rear view mirror for US internationals in Europe, it’s time to take a look at players who are on the move, should get a move, and those who might need a move see out their potential.

USMNT Abroad Summer Transfer Look Ahead

Already on the Move

Before we speculate on players that might benefit from a transfer, let’s look back at those who already have summer transfers waiting in the wings.

Matt Turner-New England Revolution to Arsenal

During the January window, in a somewhat surprising move, the Revolution announced Matt Turner would be heading to Arsenal in the summer. With Aaron Ramsdale cemented as the GK1, Turner will likely only be playing in cup games, and maybe the early stages of the Europa League.

Brendan Aaronson-RB Salzburg to Leeds United

Before Jesse Marsch took over for Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United had been linked with interest in the USMNT attacker, but Marsch keeping Leeds in the Premier League essentially sealed the deal. Leeds announced the signing of the 21 year old just days after the season ended.

Cameron Carter Vickers-Spurs to Celtic

CCV has been with Spurs since his youth academy days, but has only made 5 senior team appearances in 6 years. Celtic made the move to buy Carter Vickers out right, keeping in the Scottish Premiership.

Houskeeping/Rumors

Being linked with a move to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, is again, Weston McKennie, who was wanted by the club in January. A move to Tottenham would light up the Spurs and USMNT die hard in me. Gabriel Slonina has been linked with a transfer to just about every major club in Europe. The 18 year old is linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Wolves.

Who Needs A Move?

This where I am gonna run down a few players who have either fallen out of favor at their current club, or could benefit from a jump in level.

Luca De La Torre

As somewhat of a new comer to the international limelight, Luca De La Torre has quickly become a fan favorite for a lot of USMNT fans. Currently at Heracles in the Dutch league, it has come out that Luca already has an agreement with his club to move elsewhere. While a club like Ajax or PSV in the Eredivisie would be a good move, I think the Bundesliga is the perfect spot for LDLT to continue to grow.

Christian Pulisic

What a whirlwind stint it has been for Captain America at Chelsea. He’s shown flashes of becoming the next Eden Hazard, while also having games where you wouldn’t even know he was on the pitch. Pulisic is set to have a meeting with the Chelsea higher ups to discuss his future, and I think it’s time to go. Despite Liverpool having interest in reuniting Pulisic with Jurgen Klopp, I believe a move out of the Premier League entirely is ideal for him. A transfer to somewhere like La Liga or Serie A would be a great fit.

Zack Steffen

Having sat on the Manchester City bench behind Ederson for 3 years, it’s time for Zack Steffen to go somewhere he can be the everyday starter. Especially in a World Cup year, if he is to be the starter in Qatar over Matt Turner, he needs to be playing every game. Whether that be in the Premier League, Bundesliga, or back in the MLS, it’s imperative that Steffen gets a move.

There are plenty of players I could’ve written about that could benefit from a transfer this summer, but you came here for an article not an essay. I’ll be on top of all things USMNT transfer related, so stay tuned for a busy summer.
