Russell Draws First Blood

In the 20-minute, Jose Antonio Martinez fouled Daniel Salloi from behind inside the penalty area and referee Nima Seghafi didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot. Salloi had just received a centering pass from Johnny Russell with his back to goal. Russell stepped up to the spot and gave goalkeeper Maarten Paes no chance to make a stop.

Velasco Equalizes with a Golazo

In the 34th minute, defender Kortne Ford was given a yellow card for a foul just outside the 18-yard box on Paul Arriola. Alan Velasco stepped up for the free-kick and the resulting shot was, to quote Russell, “a bit of magic.”

After the match, manager Peter Vermes said, “Having played defense for half of my career, I’m always very critical when it comes to defending and I think that the first goal shouldn’t happen because we shouldn’t make a foul in the situation that we did. I know it was a good shot, but we’ve got to do better to keep that ball out, but we shouldn’t foul in that situation.”

Ferreira Gives Dallas a Lead

Six minutes later, Paul Arriola put a through ball to Jesus Ferreira and Ferreira gave Dallas a 2-1 lead with a smooth finish.

After the match, Russell said, “Our communication and our lines weren’t good enough and we allowed the split, which we work hard to stop. That’s disappointing, especially going a goal up and then letting them take the lead.”

Servania Loses His Mind

Servania, a 60th-minute substitution for Tsiki Ntsabeleng (who was on a yellow), received his first yellow card in the 63rd minute. Four minutes later, he received his marching orders for a late challenge right in front of referee Nima Saghafi.

Salloi Equalizes with Second Goal of the Year – Sporting KC Draw 10-Man FC Dallas

Coming into this match, Sporting had not scored more than one goal in a game all season. Dallas had not given up more than one goal in a game. Both of those things changed in the 77th minute. Defender Cameron Duke put a centering pass into Daniel Salloi, who turned and slotted home.

Russell said he spoke with Salloi before the game and said they both needed to step up. Salloi added, “We realize that there are lots of injuries. We can be the creative attacking players who have to get the goals and try to win the game. We have to step up in moments and I’m glad both of us could score.”

SKC, however, remains winless in four games, which included losing 3-1 to Los Angeles FC on the road.
