“For Canadians, By Canadians” With Some Help from Volkswagen

Toronto, ON

On Tuesday, Volkswagen Canada and the Canadian Premier League struck a multi-year agreement that will have the two working together on national and promotional assets as well as jersey sponsorship for the new Canadian-based soccer league.

Giving Young Talent a Chance to Develop

Until now, the many talented young Canadian soccer players had few options available, being forced to look abroad for a chance to ply their trade professionally. All that has changed as fans are the verge of their first look at the new Canadian Premier League set to begin in April.

Volkswagen Welcomed With Open Arms

With the recent announcement of Volkswagen Canada as the league’s new partner, a sense of legitimacy has been felt amongst the league’s growing fanbase.

“Soccer is more than just a game; it helps make up a community. At Volkswagen, we feel this partnership is a perfect way to help connect communities throughout Canada. We could not be prouder to be a part of this exciting new league.”

Daniel Weissland, Volkswagen Canada’s President and CEO

The multi-year deal will allow Volkswagen to uniquely connect with Canada’s growing nation of soccer supporters at all levels.

“Volkswagen is a world-renowned brand and we are thrilled to welcome them to the CPL family as a founding partner with exclusive automotive sponsor rights,” said CPL Commissioner David Clanachan. “Volkswagen Canada President and CEO, Daniel Weissland and their passionate team fully understand the vision for our league and the impact of joining us at the ground level and helping to shape this exciting new era for Canada’s beautiful game.”

The league looks to build a solid base and grow its fanbase in the lead up to the 2026 World Cup, easily the world’s marquee single sport event.
