Editorial (September 8, 2018) – Colombia came from behind to beat Venezuela 2-1 in an international friendly in the debut of new head coach Arturo Reyes.

Post-Pekerman Era started well for Colombia after beating Venezuela in friendly

Radamel Falcao tied the game early in the second half before Yimmi Chará goal to complete the comeback.

Despite playing without James Rodríguez and Yerry Mina, Colombia dominated on the ball most of the match, but Los Cafeteros were unable to score in the first half because of several good saves by the Venezuelan goalkeeper Wuilker Faríñez.

However, Colombia did not last any longer to tie the game in the second half after Radamel Falcao reached the net in the 55th.

Midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero made the game his own showdown after making key passes and displaying as good as he did in the Russian World Cup. His presence on the pitch was fundamental in Colombia first victory after Jose Pekerman era.

Pekerman announced his retirement after managing the team through two World Cup appearances (2014 and 2018).

But it’s a new time for Colombia, and it began well with a superb comeback.

Venezuela returns:

298 days after their last match, Venezuela still can’t prove they are World Cup-worthy.

Darwin Machís opener in the 4th minute made Venezuelans feel comfortable, but Colomba quickly takes the ball and dominated the game.

La Vinotinto’s last match was in their 1-0 victory over Paraguay on October 10th, 2017, in the last matchup of the 2018 World Cup Qualifying.

Fariñez had a great game, though, saving three difficult shots, including a Falcao shot in the 50th, but Monaco’s striker had his revenge, scoring five minutes later.

It was the 31st goal for Falcao in 78 international games.

The MLS goalscoring leader Josef Martinez did not have a good night and left the game in the 67th minute. Venezuelan coach Rafael Dudamel opted for the defensive player Ronald Lucena to replace Martinez, who did not have a single shot in the contest.
