Editorial (August 4, 2018) – Not quite a year after news broke that Columbus Crew SC owner Anthony Precourt was considering relocating the team, the future of the Crew is still in doubt. The soccer community in the capital of the Buckeye State continues to fight to keep their team in the Save the Crew movement, but Austin, TX is looming.

Late last month, Club Atletico Boca Juniors had a preseason tour in the United States that included a friendly match against Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. Boca manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto spoke with the press about a number of topics, including his opinion on the state of his former club.

Coaching on another continent has left Schelotto out of the fray as this story has developed. He made it clear in speaking that Columbus deserves to remain a part of MLS and American Soccer. Schelotto experienced first hand the role Columbus Crew and Columbus, OH had to do with the growth and development of the league.

The Save the Crew movement continues with the Project 2019 Pledge with fans committing to purchasing season tickets and other ticket packages should the Crew remain in Columbus. It has been relatively quiet from the club leadership as they have had trouble securing the stadium situation in Austin.
