International Experience

Ivan has made nearly 100 appearances at the youth level for Romania. He also featured for the U-19 German team. He has played in professional German divisions since 2013. His time at Stuttgart yielded 96 appearances before going to SV Waldhof Mannheim this past season. With Mannheim, Ivan scored eight goals and was credited with six assists in the 2017-18 season.

Warm Welcome to the Metro

Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett expressed his excitement about the addition to the club. “Andreas is a young, dynamic player with a lot of qualities we like.” Ivan’s professional experience is a benefit to the club, as well as his international caps. Head Coach Chris Armas adds,  “[Ivan] can unbalance defenses with and without the ball.” RBNY’s signature high press requires attacking midfielders, like Tyler Adams and Marc Rzatkowski, who can do this.

Fitting In

Armas may try to integrate Ivan as soon as possible. “He has a fearlessness and a great energy about him, which will help him fit in right away,” the manager said in the press release. Many new players see the field with USL side NYRBII before joining the first team. However, Ivan’s first team experience may see him at Red Bull Arena sooner rather than later.

Other Transfer Moves?

With Florian Valot out for the season (knee), depth in the midfield is going to be important as the MLS season continues. The Red Bulls could also be looking for another option in the back line if Panamanian international Michael Amir Murillo makes the move to Europe. While no specific transfer rumors have been made for Murillo, there is a chance he will not see the end of the season with RBNY.
