SEATTLE, WASHINGTON (July 20, 2018) — Seattle Sounders FC is without their “wolf.”
Magnus Wolff Eikrem has been waived by the club Friday. The suspicion of the move began after Sounders at Heart announced that the team was planning the move for Friday.
Seattle Sounders FC Waive Magnus Wolff Eikrem
The club made the official announcement on Friday afternoon.
During his five-month stint in Seattle, Eikrem made six starts in 15 appearances. He totaled 594 minutes, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He took 15 shots, with three registering on goal.
His season was filled with injury.
Hailing from Molde, Norway, Eikrem is a product of the Manchester United Academy. He was with the first-team from 2009-11 but did not make a single English Premier League appearance.
Eikrem then joined Molde, making 68 appearances and scoring six goals. He played for Dutch club Heerenveen for one season after that, scoring two goals in 13 appearances. Afterwards, he spent a short stint with Cardiff City, only making nine appearances.
He spent two seasons with Malmö Fotbollförening, making 66 appearances.
The Sounders will face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, July 21. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
Will Raúl Ruidíaz Debut?
Last weekend, the Sounders included Raúl Ruidíaz, the team’s latest signing, on the game-day, 18-player roster. However, he sat on the bench during the 1-1 tie with Atlanta United.
There’s a chance that Brian Schmetzer wanted to wait for Ruidíaz to get his first appearance in front of Seattle’s home crowd at CenturyLink Stadium.
However, with Seattle currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference, and in the need for crucial points, Ruidíaz’s wait for his debut might not be long.
Welcome to the club, @RaulRuidiazM! ??
