Colorado Rapids July Friendly: Rapids to host Boca Juniors on July 24

The Colorado Rapids will host Boca Juniors on Tuesday, July 24 at 7:00 PM MST at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

“We are excited to be hosting such a historic team as Boca Juniors. They are one of the best-known clubs in the world and we’re thrilled to give our fans the opportunity to be part of this terrific matchup,” said Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager Padraig Smith.

Boca Juniors are one of the most storied and well-supported clubs in South America and a historic power in Argentine club football. They have won 18 international titles, six Copa Libertadores, and 44 national titles since being founded in 1905. The Buenos Aires power won the Argentine Superliga this past year.

Several familiar faces will be coming to Commerce City for the match. El Azul y Oro is currently managed by Columbus Crew legend Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who won the MLS MVP in 2008. The club currently boasts Carlos Tevez, formerly of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus. Forward Cristian Pavón, who is currently with Argentia at the World Cup, also plays club football for Boca Juniors.

This friendly will come during a busy time for the Rapids. They have five league matches in the month of July, three of which will be on the road. The club will play in the Rocky Mountain Cup at Real Salt Lake on Saturday, July 21 and at D.C. United (at the newly minted Audi Field) on Saturday, July 28.
