BOYDS, MARYLAND (June 1, 2018) — An eruption of confusion occurred among U.S. Soccer fans when Mallory Pugh was not named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster against China.

However, an answer as now been given.

Pugh picked up a knee injury against the Houston Dash last weekend. According to the Spirit, the injury occurred near the end of Washington’s 3-2 loss.

Mallory Pugh, Ali Krieger to Miss USWNT Friendlies Due to Injury

There is no set date for how much time Pugh will miss. While she has been ruled out for the United States’ two friendlies against China, she will also miss this Saturday’s Spirit match against the Chicago Red Stars.

Pugh is on crutches, as they brought them out when the injury occurred against Houston.

Spirit Head Coach Jim Gabarra did not speak on the injury but did talk about the upcoming match against Chicago. The match will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex, which Gabarra called a “great environment.”

“It’s fan friendly, it’s very close, it’s very intimate,” Gabarra said. “You really feel support of the Spirit Squadron and all of our fans. We’re looking forward to getting out there on national television and having a great day.”

The Spirit will face Chicago on Lifetime TV as part of the Lifetime Game of the Week. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Krieger Out for Four to Six Weeks

Another notable injury occurred this past weekend down in Orlando.

Defender Ali Krieger will be out four to six weeks with an MCL injury. Specifically, she suffered the injury in the 66th minute of Orlando’s match against Chicago on Saturday. Orlando ended up winning the match 5-2.

Krieger’s active minutes streak broke the league record on Saturday. Since her arrival to Orlando before the start of the 2017 season, Krieger has featured for 3,227 consecutive minutes.

The streak is currently the longest active streak in the NWSL.

Orlando will face off against the Seattle Reign FC on Sunday. The match will be held in Seattle at Memorial Park. Kick off is slated for 9 p.m. ET.
