SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – Seyi Adekoya is no longer a Seattle Sounder. The club announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have parted ways with the Homegrown player. Adekoya signed with the Sounders on Jan. 17, 2017, becoming the ninth Homegrown player in club history.

His first appearance for the club occurred on May 31, 2017, in a loss against the Columbus Crew SC. Most of his time with Seattle was spent with the Seattle Sounders 2 of the United Soccer League.

Adekoya made 13 appearances with the USL club and scored one goal against the Portland Timbers 2.

“I just didn’t see him getting much playing time here,” Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer said to the Sounders. “Seyi is a good kid, he’s one of our Homegrowns. We wish him nothing but the best of luck. He’s a nice kid and we wish him well in the future.”

A former member of the University of California at Los Angeles men’s soccer team, Adekoya scored 20 goals and provided eight assists. The Bruin was a three-time All-PAC-12 selection.

Riley makes his return

A former Seattle Sounder is making his return to the club.

After a 12-year professional career, James Riley retired from soccer in 2015. He was a member of the Seattle Sounders from 2009-11, making 84 appearances on defense.

Now, Riley is returning to Seattle, but this time in the front office.

The club announced on April 2 that Riley was joining the Sounders broadcast team, which already includes Kasey Keller, Zach Scott, Marcus Hahnemann and Steve Zakuani.

“I’ve always had an infatuation for the business side of the game,” Riley said to the Sounders. “I had an opportunity to go to the executive corporate side of the league, and it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

Riley is also working on a youth nutrition project, which also includes a personalized coaching program.
