Heavy rumors are confirming the arrival of Jonathan dos Santos to the LA Galaxy, but the question stands if this is the answer to the their problems. The 27 year old Mexican midfielder is rumored to be arriving for a price of $5 million dollars. Coming in he would be the Galaxy’s third designated player. As well as being reunited with his brother. Who already plays for the LA Galaxy, Giovanni dos Santos.
It’s no surprise that the LA Galaxy would be in the market looking to make a marque signing. But questions surrounding this will be whether or not this is the right move. Since January of this year Jonathan was rumored to be on the Galaxy’s radar. After not being able to land him then, the deal now look to of finally gone through.
Is Jonathan dos Santos the Answer To LA Galaxy’s Problems?
Even with the potential arrival of Jonathan dos Santos things don’t seem to be fixed with this signing. The LA Galaxy’s troubles have been mainly in the defense and up top. Many Galaxy fans where hopeful that a big name striker would be brought into the side. But as things stand it’s looking to be improbable. The transfer window is still open which means there’s still time to add a quality striker. Question is who could come in? With the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic probably staying at Manchester United and Andre-Pierre Gignac not looking to budge from Tigres, there really isn’t a star forward out there in the market.
The incorporation of Jonathan could cause the Galaxy to have more of an issue than a solution. The problem with this new signing would be who plays in the midfield. Do you drop Jermaine Jones? Joao Pedro? And what about when Sebastian Lletget, where does he fit in when he’s healthy? These will be questions running through the mind of Head Coach Curt Onalfo. With a struggling side and poor results, experimenting with the midfield could make things worse.
Another thing to keep in mind is how will Jonathan dos Santos adapt to life in MLS. Whether or not he can fit in right away will be up to him. If his brother Giovanni dos Santos is any indication to go by, we can expect a bit of a delay before he can pick up form. But only time will tell for the El Tri star. The only bright side is that he will be along side his brother which should help smoothen the transition. Exactly where he will feature for this side is still a mystery. As a versatile player in the midfield he can play you practically anywhere. He can be an attacking, holding or central midfielder. He can even play on the wings, where he’s played recently with Villarreal.
Even with a cloud of judgment looming over this signing, fans should still be happy. The addition can be a fresh of breath air for the midfield. Once the team can find a since of synergy, things could look up. And if the two dos Santos brothers can link up perfectly it could be a deadly duo. In the end this doesn’t mean all will be solved and fixed. The LA Galaxy still need to bring in a top goal scoring striker and possibly a defender and/or goalkeeper. Maybe if they make those signings in those position we can finally see the LA Galaxy of before.
