MLS Pick ‘Em 2017 – Week 8

All of the writers are finally on the board. Last week we had a three-way tie between Noah, Matt McCarthy, and myself. Points! John Bava still leads the pack with four points, but the rest of the writers are catching up! Overall, Joe Hojnacki is still leading all writers with 46.3% correct.

MLS Pick ‘Em 2017 – Week 8

New England Revolution v. San Jose Earthquakes

This week, New England and San Jose play twice. First against each other, and then against D.C. and Houston, respectively. San Jose is undefeated at home, but winless on the road. A week with two road games does not bode well for the Earthquakes. New England on the other hand, has two home games. With two straight home wins, the Revs will be licking their chops with the chance of a six point week.

Portland Timbers v. Vancouver Whitecaps

Elsewhere, we have another Cascadia match between Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps won their first Cascadia match last week against Seattle. Can they double up on the rivalry wins at Portland? The Timbers stormed out of the game with three straight wins. Now, they have just one win in their last four games.

New York Red Bulls v. Columbus Crew SC

New York is coming off of a big rivalry win over D.C. United. The switch back to the 4-2-3-1 seems to have solved some of their early problems. The win was good for NY, but they face a very tough Columbus team currently leading the pack in the East. Columbus seems to have rebounded from their 2016 struggles, but winning on the road is always key to a run at the postseason.

Real Salt Lake v. Atlanta United FC

Mike Petke is 2-0-0 with his team at Real Salt Lake. Both wins came against struggling opponents. Atlanta United FC is certainly not struggling. The debutantes have two losses in their first six games, and look like they are on track to fight for a high seed come playoff time. Petke will have his work cut out for him to get win number 3.

New York City FC v. Orlando City SC

Finally, we finish up with a Jason Kreis returning to the scene of the crime. Kreis brings Orlando City to the big apple to square up against his former team. Orlando and NYC both debuted in 2014, and both have grown in their own way. Orlando has been getting the job done at their new home, but now must head out on the road. NYC is their typical ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ selves, and lost 1-0 to Orlando just a few weeks ago. Can Orlando put their stamp on the game early and see off NYC at home?
