Thunder Rosa has relinquished the Tokyo Joshi Pro International Princess Title. This was announced via a video announcement that was posted on the Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling Twitter account. Thunder Rosa held the title since January beating Maki Itoh at the New Year’s Dish show, becoming the first non-Japanese wrestler to hold a title with the company.
She was scheduled to defend the title in March and in April at Tokyo Joshi Pro’s American debut show at WrestleCon. However, COVID restrictions prevented both shows from occurring along and Rosa from traveling to make any future defenses since her win. With an unknown date of when restrictions will be lifted, the title was sent back to decide a new champion. Since winning the International Princess title, she not only won the NWA Women’s Championship but fought at All Elite Wrestling’s All Out show for the AEW Women’s Championship.
Tokyo Joshi Pro plans on crowning a new champion with an eight-woman tournament. It begins on the 10th and has the semis and finals on the 17th. The winner of the tournament will become with fifth International Princess Champion. So far, no names have been announced for the tournament. Thunder Rosa has made it clear that she does wish to return once restrictions are lifted in order to challenge whoever the champion may be for the title.
The International Princess Title is a relatively new championship not unlike the Universal title in the DDT Promotion. It was meant to push forward towards a worldwide audience, but the current restrictions have made this difficult. Thus, belts have had to readjust. In the case of the International Princess Title, it was a long wait. However, according to Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, the focus has shifted over to giving a stronger domestic front.
