#AndNEW: WATSON becomes Arizona Wrestling Federation Champ-Champ

Saturday night history was made as Arizona State Champion WATSON defeated Gabriel Gallo to win the Arizona Wrestling Federation (AWF) Heavyweight Championship. It was Teacher vs Student in Peoria, Arizona as Gallo and WATSON met for the first time in an AWF ring. The Challenger said prior to the contest it was “the biggest match of my young career,” and he was ready from the outset taking the fight to the 3-Time Champion of what was a harbinger of things to come.

The AWF FanNation was torn between the two popular stars with WATSON chants and dog barks filling the air throughout the contest. Both men responded and fought like hell in and out of the ring multiple times as any friendship they had was extinguished at this point. Nearing the 18-minute mark of the bout Gallo hit WATSON with a spear that would seemingly end the fight, but on instinct, he rolled out of the ring and avoided the cover. Barely escaping the ten count the Man from Philly ducked a clothesline and hit his own spear to get the pinfall and the Title at 19:31.

WATSON said it was time for the “Young Lion” to take over and he certainly backed up his words. AWF officials said that the new AWF King will hold both crowns for now. That’s a lot of responsibility for the young star, but if the match Saturday night is any indication he is certainly ready for it. Congratulations to the new Arizona “Champ-Champ.”

About Brian Ronovech

I have the most supportive woman on Earth, and I live with her in Las Vegas. Sports have been a part of my life since I was a child. My wrestling life began with the AWA in the early eighties, and I was hooked immediately. I love a high energy, physical pro wrestling match whether it's in a stadium or a high school. I love great stories and characters, but the great match is what gets me every time. Writing has taken me from the school newspaper to blogs about leadership, leukemia, hockey, and wrestling. I've realized that for me everything comes back to writing. There is nothing else I would rather do.
